What a memorial is

A memorial is a page about somebody who has died, written by the people who knew them. It is not a legal record and it is not a grave registration. Nothing on it proves who is buried where, and nothing on it settles who owns a plot.

Who may look after one

Anybody may make a memorial for somebody who has died. Family come first when it comes to looking after it: if you are related to them, you can ask to take over a memorial from whoever made it, and the person who made it stays on as a contributor. Nobody is thrown off a page they built.

Making a memorial first does not make it yours forever. Being the person who happened to get there first is not the same as being the person with the strongest claim, and this site will not treat it as though it were.

When two people disagree

Families fall out, and two people who both loved somebody can want different things for their page. No rule can settle that fairly, so we do not pretend to have one.

If a claim is contested, nothing changes hands automatically. A person reads both sides and gets in touch. We will not adjudicate who was closest to the person who died; what we will do is stop a memorial being used against somebody, and if there is no way through, take the page down rather than let it become a weapon.

What you put here

Only put up photographs and words you have the right to share, and be careful with details about people who are still living. What you write stays yours; you are giving us permission to publish it here, and you can take it down again.

We will remove anything abusive, anything impersonating somebody, and anything that turns a memorial into an attack on the living.

What we promise, and what we do not

Reading a memorial is free and will stay free. We do not sell anything to the bereaved, we do not run advertising, and we will never charge a family to keep a page they have already made.

What we cannot promise is forever. This is a small site run by one person, so the honest guarantee is a different one: every memorial can be exported in full, at any time, and if this site ever has to close we will say so well in advance rather than disappear.

These pages are provided as they are. Please do not rely on this site alone for anything that matters legally - the stone, the register and the deed are the record.

If something here is wrong or should not be here, write to shane@acemedia.ninja and say so plainly. A person reads it.
